Whether in sports or in business, each coach has his or her own way of approaching the individual, the team, and in reaching goals. To me, each person I coach is different. And that’s how I approach coaching. I want to know you, like a sports coach, my job is to understand where your skill-set is. What are you good or even great at, what areas need tweaking, and even perhaps identify skills you need to develop.

 

It is essential I understand what your successes have been, the times that you haven’t done as well as you would have liked, or you “tripped up, your ways of dealing with not only success but as most human beings, with your own failures and disappointments”.

Each of us has a DNA of how we motivate ourselves, achieve our goals or deal with setbacks.  As a coach, my job is to understand what works best for you. Each time we work together, it’s about moving things forward. So, each time we talk, meet, work on an upcoming event or meeting, my goal is to help move the needle forward. For me and our other coaches it’s all about understanding what you want to achieve, what you have tried thus far towards getting there, or even what has you stuck.

Coaching Methodology

There are several types of executive coaches and different methodologies. Finding the “right” coach for you is in many respects more important than what methodology they or each coach uses.

Each and every one of the coaches associated with the Sun2Ice Group (whether for Life Coaching, Family Coaching, etc.,) have earned their stories. Ask any coach that has seemingly had nothing but success, and he or she will tell you that there was a trail of failures, disappointments, trials and errors through which they grew. They were able to impart on to their players and teams that ultimately resonated and motivated them to being “great’.

 

Sun2Ice Executive coaching is really about “coaching”. Ask yourself if you really want to move forward and not only define your goals but seriously and realistically “achieve” them! Having a coach is all about what works for “you”. The Sun2Ice methodology is definitely not about “drilling” you, but so much more about helping you “win”. We will understand together what your goals are, what your barriers to success are, what keeps you up at night, what “balance in life” means to you; and then we will coach and work together! The best coaches understand their players in order to make them “great”. That is what we do. We create a Personal RoadMap, similar to what we do in Business Consulting. We create the right avenue and direction for success.

 

Together we will create initially at a minimum a 90-day plan of action based on goals and vision. This will build out to further vision and action plans. At each step of the way, the Sun2Ice Group is a part of your success. We are perpetual in our DNA, we don’t “watch the clock”!

 

If you want to talk outside of our scheduled time, we are there. I will personally pick up a call from you at any time, whether it is to review your next presentation, prepare or run through last minute details for your Board meeting, or even going into that interview that you want to “nail”, or quite "frankly" just need to bounce an idea of off me or us as to something you are dealing with or thinking about. That is what “coaching” is to me and is to the Sun2Ice Group.

Here is my “take” on Executive Coaching based on my experiences and beliefs:

Psychology based coaching – this type of coaching methodology conducts personality testing, style testing and uses this to suggest exercises, readings and activities that you should engage in to move forward. Often this type of coaching is more about asking questions and challenging you for the answers. The belief in this type of coaching is not to tell you their opinions or make suggestions about what to do, but to challenge you to think about what “you” think you should do.

Template Coaching – many coaches have literally “bought” into to coaching programs run by companies that have created standardized templates for their coaches to use and implement with their clients. It’s the cookie-cutter approach. Most of these coaches have done relatively well in their careers before deciding to transition into coaching, but they coach from a methodology developed by others and have become skilled experts at putting you through that particular system. In many respects that can be powerful yet from my experience can seldom relate to your own particular situation, because they haven’t “really experienced it”. It’s less about actually “coaching”, but working you through a systemized process.

Sun2Ice Model – we believe that a coach should have played the game that they are coaching in, or at least had the real-life experiences to relate to each client. In my case I can relate to you as the business athlete that you are, no matter where you are in your development as a rookie in your executive career or as that budding super-star that has the opportunity to really be “great” at the Senior level or as the CEO of a company where you want to create balance in your life and need to work through a plan for your company, personal goals and life, with someone like me in your “trusted” corner.
